A Narrative Writing Workshop
Writing personal narratives, or small-moment stories, is a terrific opportunity to pull readers into our worlds and make them feel like they're there with us. In this workshop, we'll read Twenty-One Elephants and Still Standing and other mentor texts to explore the way other writers convey specific actions, emotions, and details and make their writing come to life.
Then we'll begin writing personal narratives of our own! Using a special graphic organizer that integrates plot points and sensory details, students will draw upon a juicy memory to weave a narrative that's compelling, engaging, and fun to share. This workshop is best for single classrooms at a time, grades 2-4, and requires students to brainstorm and choose a topic in advance of my visit. It supports Common Core Writing Standards 3 and 4 and Reading Literature Standards 6 and 9. |
